Go-Ride and the Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge 2008
Go-ride from British Cycling and the Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge 2008
The Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge team will be involved in the Go-Ride scheme with local primary, middle and high schools on the Isle of Wight, in conjunction with British Cycling.
What is Go-Ride?
Go-Ride is British Cycling’s Club Development Programme aimed at improving both young riders and clubs. It focuses on volunteers and young members – improving coaching standards and increasing the number of young riders with access to coaching activities. Go-Ride supports the creation of school-club links, which helps provide clubs with a constant influx of new young members and helps everyone work towards our shared vision of more young people, more active, more often in cycling. The success of Go-Ride is dependent upon partnerships between British Cycling, clubs, schools, local authorities and voluntary organisations. (source: British Cycling)
Go-Ride in Isle of Wight Schools
Go-Ride activities can be delivered in schools. A link is established between the school and a local Go-Ride community club. This provides a sustainable exit route, allowing pupils to continue their cycling interests outside of school. (source: British Cycling)
How will the Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge team be involved in Go-Ride?
The Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge 2008 team will be visiting all Isle of Wight schools in early February 2008 to see pupils and explain how they can get involved and complete their own mini Square to Square.
Schools that then wish to take up the scheme and become involved will then be re-visited by the Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge Team and will further discuss and get the pupils motivated and involved.
Details of the scheduled SQ2SQ team visits to Isle of Wight Schools are here.
Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge Team 2008 training to be Go-Ride Level 1 Coaches
Members of the Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge 2008 Team are undertaking training during March and April 2008 to become qualified as Go-Ride Level 1 Coaches.
The qualified members of the team will then be able to deliver Go-Ride Level 1 coaching to adults and children on the Isle of Wight, as well as assisting Go-Ride Instructors and School Teachers in delivering Go-Ride training.
