SQ2SQ 2008: actual mileage 108 miles
Day 9 saw the Team cycle 108 miles with 6 hours 50 in the saddle, in rising temparatures as they continued to cross the northern plains of Italy as they heaed towards Ostellato.
Day 9 for the SQ2SQ 2008 Team completed - 73 miles in 4 hours 10 mins in the saddle, in temperatures of 37C in the shade.
At 8.20hrs GMT, after 1 hour 20 mins of cycling, the Team reached 1,000 miles in 10 days - a spectacular achievement in such a short time; to put this in perspective the previous SQ2SQ challenge in 2005 saw a team cycle 1,014 miles in 14 days.
The Team are staying just outside of Modena.
Day 10 will see the Team cycle around 60 miles before being met by an Italian Fire Service cycling team for the next 40 miles of the day for the journey to Ostellato. On arrival in Ostellato they will met by the Mayor of the town who is kindly holding a civic reception for the Team.
Day 11 will be the first of three days of travel to and over the Appenines mountain region in central Italy heading for Rome.
