The route for the Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge
The Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge 2008, will see a team of Isle of Wight firefighters cycling 1,400 miles each from St Thomas' Square, Newport, Isle of Wight, Great Britain to St Peter's Square, Vatrican City, Italy.
This distance excludes the journey around the Isle of Wight (circa 70 miles) and the additional mileage that will be encountered for detours to camp sites, as well as avoiding high speed roads and restricted routes and tunnels that prohibit cyclists. There maybe an additional mileage of 200 miles for these variations.
After travelling to France from Portsmouth (by ferry), having cycled around the Isle of Wight before heading to Portsmouth, the route takes the team from Le Havre, France down through the centre of France to the south of France before moving east over the Alps into Italy and then down the west coast of Italy onto the Vatican Square, Italy.
The challenge takes place in September 2008.

SQ2SQ CHARITY CYCLE CHALLENGE 2008 ROUTE AND DAILY SCHEDULE
The SQ2SQ Team 2008 will be cycling a minimum of 1,400 miles each over 14 days.
Departure Day: Saturday 30th August 2008:
Circuit of Isle of Wight - 70 miles
The Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge Team will be completing a circuit of the Isle of Wight, calling at all of the fire stations on the Island, prior to catching the Wightlink ferry from Fishbourne to Portsmouth, then the overnight LD Lines ferry from Portsmouth to Le Havre (arriving in France early in the morning on Sunday 31 August) for day one of the Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge.
Provisional timetable (subject to confirmation near the date of the start of the challenge).
8am leave Newport Fire Station to St Thomas' Square - SQ2SQ cycling around the island calling at all fire stations - anti-clockwise direction
2 to 2.30pm approx. return to Newport Fire Station
6.30pm St Thomas' Square
7pm leave St Thomas' Square
Wightlink ferry: Fishbourne to Portsmouth - 30th August 2008 (2008/08/30) - 8pm
LD Lines ferry from Portsmouth to Le Havre- overnight on 30th August 2008 (2008/08/30) - 11pm - arrive Le Havre at 8am on 31st August (2008/08/31).
The distances are conservative, for many of the days the distances will be plus 10 miles.
