Cyclist profile - Julian Fountain
The team currently comprises of ten cyclists, including a guest cyclists from Wight Mountain, Newport, British Cycling and the Carisbrooke Schools Sports Partnership.
Date joined the IW Fire & Rescue Service: 1989 (Retained) 1991 (Wholetime)
Current Role: Station Manager rank as Community Risk Planning Manager. I served most of my first 4 years with White Watch before moving to the training department in 1995. Where I spent approx 9 years. I then briefly went back to the watches at Newport as a watch manager before returning to training then promoted and moved to Service Headquarters, where I am now as Community Risk Planning Manager.

Kids: 3 children:, a girl (Kimberley) and 2 boys (Oliver & Cameron)
Interests/Hobbies: - My interests are outward bound type of events, hiking, occasional climbing, marathons, triathlons (local) and of course long distance cycling.
Favourite Food: a curry and a good roast dinner or calvery.
Favourite Drink: orange juice ( the "E" numbers explain a lot!!)
- I would describe myself as: Outgoing family man. good out look on life and full of life.
- Who inspires me: My 2 boys, full of fun and never sit still and my grandad, Ex RSM from WWII.Very proud man.
- My philosopy: Never give up, you never know what's round the corner.
- On thing I always carry with me: A picture of my family.
- Distinguishing features: Scar on right forearm and hole in my head.

The Challenge
On the Challenge: - I hope to see a lot of interesting places, test my limits,
enjoy the challenge of course, meet different people.
Odds of completing the challenge 100%. I wont give up. I have a good
positive mental attitude to challenges and events like these.
Odds on completing the challenge: The odds of completing any challenge like this are open to many factors however, sprains, strains, bike failure, weather, crash's, to name a few. But if all goes well and in our favour, then I will complete the challenge.

Body Composition
Body Composition
Each cyclist is having his body composition analysed during the lead up and during the challenge.
The body composition monitoring is measuring the cyclist's weight, body fat percentage, water percentage, visceral fat, muscle mass, bone mass, basal metabolic rate, and metabolic age.

Training
All of the cyclists are undertaking an intense period of training leading up to the challenge in September 2008.
Each individual cyclist is starting his training from varying level of fitness, with the aim of achieving a satisfactory level of fitness prior to the challenge in order to be able to complete the 1,400 miles inn 14 days.
