Support profile - Shaun Elvers

The SQ2SQ Cycling Team 2008 would be no where without a great support crew, both on the challenge and in the UK during the preparations. Shaun is an integral part of the team.

Joined Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service: July 2006.

Current Role: Administrator to Finance, Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service

Nickname: The Doc

Age: 33

Status: Married to Jo, been married 5 years and been together 13!

Kids: Daughter 2 ½ years old

Interests/Hobbies: - Spending time with family, football, walking with new puppy (Ziggy), music, socialising with friends and colleagues. Currently club secretary for Osborne Coburg Football Club. The occasional cycle! And a lot of DIY at the moment.

Favourite Food: Spag Bol (Jo makes the best), roast dinners, nice bit of salmon or steak – the list could be endless

Favourite Drink: Non Alcoholic – Tea, milk, water
Alcoholic – currently Becks Vier and Ventnor Golden willing to try any real ale

On the Challenge: Role for this challenge is Treasurer and even though I am not involved physically I am privileged to have been asked to help the team. Having lost my grandfather to cancer a number of years ago it would be a great asset to the island to have this equipment and help diagnose this dreadful disease. With the equipment at St Marys Hospital it will stop the journey to and from the mainland for many and ensuring that their families are always close

This is a truly awesome challenge and the money raised so far has been above what I expected and I would like to thank all those that have donated and contributed to the challenge.

I think all the cyclists are completely mad but they would not do it if it didn’t mean something to them. It will be a life changing experience for those involved, support crew as well as the cyclists and I hope that, should they decide to take on another challenge in the future that I can be more involved.

Good luck to all.
