Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge 2008

A team of firefighters will be cycling from St Thomas' Square, Newport, Isle of Wight to the Vatican Square, Italy in september 2008.

Each cyclist will cover 1,454 miles for the journey around the Isle of Wight, through France and then Italy to the Vatican Square.

The team will have a support crew with them.

The challenge will leave St Thomas' Square, Newport, Isle of Wight on Saturday 30 August 2008, followed by a cycle ride around the Isle of Wight, before heading across to Portsmouth for the ferry to La Havre.

On arrival in France the team will cycle down through the centre of France, then across to the Alps, into Italy and then head for Rome, Italy and the Vatican City.

The team will each need to cycle around 100 miles per day to cover the 1,454 miles over the 14 day challenge in September 2008.

The team start their challenge on 30 August 2008 from St Thomas' Square, Newport, Isle of Wight

Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge 2005

In May 2005 a team of firefighters cycled 1,004 miles each from St Thomas' Square, Newport, Isle of Wight to The Old Town Square, Prague, Czech Republic during the 14 day challenge.

The team raised £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer, Isle of Wight Kidney Patients Association and the National Fire Services Benevolent Fund.
